Drive from Las Vegas to Bakersfield and on to Three Rivers in California

After a week of enjoying the "glitzy, artificial" life in Vegas(okay, I'm a city girl and I love dressing up), we are on the road again.  We had been staying at the Las Vegas RV Resort which we would highly recommend.  As novices of rv'ing, it was a great help for us to have a guide help us reverse park our rig "Al.  The cost of the laundromat was the cheapest we have come across so far - $1 per load to wash and 75cts to dry.(the most expensive was at Monument Valley where it was $2.50 per wash and $2.50 to dry). The RV park is also very close to the strip.

We left Vegas on a cool morning on our own as Nola and Bas had left on Saturday to escape the hot winds and dust and Robie and Sharon left on Sunday for Salem, OR. Whilst the drive towards Sequoia is not the most scenic drive by any means with thousands of trucks on a two lane road making the drive "exciting" for Tom and rather nerve wracking for one Chinese Lady, we did manage to capture a few photos along the way.

We passed through Barstow and Bakersfield - what a difference from Vegas.  We saw fields upon fields of golden wheat, orchards of oranges, olive trees and oil fields!

Dozens of trucks all in  hurry to deliver their loads.

Heading closer to Barstow

We kept seeing these signs saying so many miles toPeggy Sue's 50 diner that eventually we had to give in and stop for lunch, the food was terrible it might as well have stayed in the 50's but it did have some interesting things to look at.

We passed through an area outside of Bakersfield covered with thousands of wind generators, they are really an eyesore but at least they are in a region where no one really lives.

Passing through Bakersfield we saw many of these oil well heads with many of them abandoned but again many of them still in production, they cover vast areas of land and all interconnected by pipes. Obviously a reflection on Bakersfield past.

We drove through acres of citrus fruit trees and what appeared to be olive groves.

My initial plan was only to drive as far as Bakerfield and stay the night but as it was still only mid afternoon I decided that we would push onto Three Rivers and arrive a day early.

A distinct change in the scenery from the low lands of Bakersfield we have started to climb up into the mountains with the road getting increasingly windy and much less traffic.

Three Rivers Municipal Golf Course-it was pretty nippy the day we played 9 holes.

Finally we make Three Rivers at about 5 PM having lef Vegas at 8:00AM a distance of 383 miles.
