Not a long drive today but it turned out to be more exiting than anticipated, on departing Monument Valley I filled the truck up with diesel and on the first fairly steep hill the trucks engine management system warning light came on and as a result the engine would only produce about 50% power which was OK for flat terain but on the many steep climbs it meant slowing down considerably due the lack of power.
About half way into the trip I had to call Robie on the CB and advise that I had a problem, after stopping and reviewing the options I decided that the truck apepeared safe to limp onwards to Page, becides there were no repair facilities out in the desert.
As we appoached Page we were astonished to see this beutiful gorge with a large lake called Lake Powell with the most attractive surrounding landscape. The landscape is very different in colour to Monument Valley which is a very strong red, this is like a clay looking sustance.
The Lake Powell Resort campsite http://www.lakepowell.com/rv-and-camping/wahweap.aspx is perfect sitting on top of a hill overlooking the lake and at last we do not have all the dust around. Betty immediatly got into vacuuming the interior of the 5th wheeler while I sorted out getting the truck looked at and also arranging Betty's birthday dinner at the local restaraunt which is located in the resort.
We are camped here for three nights and look forward to getting all of the red desert dust out of everything.
I think Basil and Nola are looking forward to a bit of a rest and doing nothing, Betty is looking forward to going for walks along the lake front.
Photos to follow - check back later.
Enjoying your blog stories & photos. Lake Powell (2008) was where we met the couple we are traveling to Alaska with next week. Trish
