Another night in Vegas

Last night Betty & I went to see Human Nature an Australian group performing at the Imperial Palace in Vegas, they sing all of the Motown songs and are easy listening.

Here again is a sample of the pictures.

Human Nature - an Australian group from Sydney performing live in Las Vegas.
Below is a short video clip of Human Nature performing. Click on the arrowhead to start.

Michael Jackson lives - or so some people think.

As the show finieshed early we took a quick trip down to Fremont Street for dinner. and here are a few more photos of Fremont Street.

Not really sure what it is however it had dropped suspension such that the rear of the car was just about touching the ground, you see all sorts of funny things in Vegas.

Visit to Freemont Street in Old Las Vegas

We were told by Robie and Sharon about Freemont Street in old Las Vegas that it is worth a special visit as it has the world largest overhead LED screen and sound system. http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/fremont-street.php

Below are a sampling of pictures from Freemont Street and the surrounding area.

The canopy you can see is the jiant LED overhead screen, Fremont street is full of bars, casinos and clubs and there are thousands of people there every night. After dark on the hour all the bars etc go dark and then the overhead projection starts and lasts about 15 minutes. The sound system is equally incredible with good clear sound.

The item below is a video of the jiant overhead screen showing the pop group Queen doing a performance - it was really great to watch so hopefully the video will give you some idea of what it is all about.

Make sure you click on the above picture to enjoy the panoramic view.

This picture is of a street artist who uses spray cans and a variety of techniques to create amazing photos.
This is one of his amazing results that we watched him create.

Las Vegas Nightlife and Golf

Well we have been in Las Vegas for about a week now and I have been lazy getting the blog done, actually we have just been so busy running around having a good time. The following pictures with captions will give you an idea of what we have been up to.

Well what can I say, our first night out and I had to sample the Margaritas and prime rib. Delicious! Not that Robie and I have not been getting stuck into Margaritas, we have found a ready mix that is excellent and we are on our second dozen bottles, each bottle is about 1 litre.

Basil and Nola getting stuck into a couple of strawberry margaritas.
Our first trip downtown to see a show was the Blue Man Group which is a really odd show with lots of percussion no talking and lots and lots of gestures. A really fun show.

The following pictures are some nighttime shots taken from a car park.

Robie, Sharon, Betty & I had a good day of golf at the Las Vegas Golf Club and I am pleased to report that I shot a 86 off the back tees giving me a nett 66 or 6 under my handicap - very pleased with that result.

Las Vegas Golf Club is an older course and is owned by the municipality and is surprisingly good. I am amazed that every local municipality on the US seems to have a golf course and the ones we are visited are all doing well and are in excellent shape.

We went downtown with Basil & Nola to take a walk round Caesar's Palace and here are a few photos of it - unfortunately my camera battery went flat so I was limited in what photos I took.

Back at the RV relaxing and getting ready for another night out on the town

Drive from Springvale Utah to Las Vegas Nevada

We set off from Springvale near Zion Canyon for an easy couple of ours drive to Las Vegas, Nevada.

Interesting little town on the way to Vegas where we stopped for lunch.

Zion Canyon

We managed to get a one night stay at the Zion RV Resort - a very well appointed place but packed to the rafters...its rv suburbia.

What a contrast....at Bryce Canyon we were looking down into the canyons and Zion we are looking up. How can I describe the colours of Zion to you?..imagine the colours of scalloped sweet potatoes mixed with regular potatoes then top it all with cheese and parsley..that's how diverse it is.

Of the 3 canyons, Bryce sits on top with water/rainfall from the 11,.000ft high Colorado Plateau flowing down on to Zion and finally into the Grand Canyon.

Our 2 highlights at Zion was spotting a herd of goats cropping at the vegetation and also meeting a couple with an "Australian Sheep" dog. Gracie was so sweet, she has one blue and one brown eye.

Mocha and cream!

Scalloped Potatoes! This picture shows the layers of sediment of what used to be the ocean floor millions of years ago with each layer representing different cycles.

Small cacti growing on the rock face.

Mountain goats cropping at vegetation.

Gracie the Australian Sheepdog - oh the other one is Betty.
Approaching the end of the tunnel in Zion.

Zion is much greener and wetter than any of the canyons we have previously visited.
