New Jersey & New York City Skyline September 15th

September 15th

Well I must admit that I was nervous about doing the drive from Mystic Connecticut to the RV park in New Jersey as it is very close to the Holland Tunnel to New York and if I missed the turn I would finish up in the tunnel to downtown New York. As it turned out I got specific instructions from the RV park that worked out fine and we safely arrived at the RV park.

As parks go it does not have much going for it as it is basically a car park with power and water and no sewage but what a location with views of the New York and New Jersey skylines plus the Statue of Liberty right from our RV - OK I had to stand on top of the RV to take the photos below but we could see the same from standing in front of the RV.

Approaching the George Washington Bridge...for trucks/rvs/5th wheels it is important to follow the signage that tells you to take the Upper level.  Apparently if you carry propane, you are not allowed on the lower level.

Tom got talking to the 5th wheel owner parked next to us at Mystic and he had come from New York. He had taken the lower level of the G.W. Bridge and when he got to the Toll Booth, he was detained, they closed the traffic on the bridge (yeah...he was real popular that day with the New Yorkers!!). They had Police escort to get them off the bridge.

A sighting of the Statue of Liberty taken from the rooftop of our 5th wheel from Liberty Harbor Marina and RV Park.

Great pic of New York skyline again from the top of the RV.

High density living at Liberty Harbor. You are so close to you neighbour you can see into their rv's.

On the evening of our arrival, we took a drive to Liberty State Park to check out the ferry to Liberty Island. This is the New Jersey memorial to 9/11...the names of the fallen are inscribed on the 2 walls. Before 9/11 the Twin Towers would have been visible down the alleyway created by the 2 walls.

The unmistakable New York skyline with the Freedom Tower standing the tallest.

It was quite a chilly wind blowing that evening but great for walking.

The Schwab building right across from our RV park.

Me and him and the Hudson River.

The Central Railroad of New Jersey terminal, a lovely old building unfortunately closed for repairs caused by Hurricane Sandy.

  1. NY downtown sure buzzes. It was refreshing to spend time in Central Park. Mainly blue skies I see - nice! We are home (sweet, sweet home). Way behind on the blog. Hit the ground running...
