Rapid City, SD to Sidney, Nebraska

4th August, 2012 - Rapid City, S.Dakota to Sidney, Nebraska
Crossing State line into Nebraska...cattle and corn country as far as the eye can see.

As the saying goes..make hay while the sun shines. We saw hundreds of bales of hay (probably more likely in the thousands) as the farmers are done harvesting their summer crops.

This is Cabelas in Sidney, Nebraska - it is like the Nordstrom of outdoor sports and hobbies. They sell anything and everything to do with fishing, guns, ammos, boats, dune buggies, shoes, clothes and of course taxidermied (stuffed) game.
Cabelas also operate an RV Park right next door to the store. We overnighted there - there is a shuttle service (golf cart) that takes you from the RV Park to Cabelas.

The centrepiece of the shop is this display of game - although beautifully arranged I could not help but feel sorry at the hunting down of these animals for sport. It would be different if ones' life was in danger from a "mountain sheep"?? Hey, you have to go to their turf in order to see them - its not as if they stand in your backyard with a sign that says "shoot me".
Below the centrepiece is also another display of game shot and also names of the shooters.

Red squirrel and Badger

Grizzly Bear

Wolverine - an animal we don't see that often.

Mule Deer

Alaskan Caribou

Black Bears

Doesn't he look sad....

Wolves

Artic fox

Mountain Lion

Pronghorns
